CAPE TOWN - The death toll following a mass shooting in Bishop Lavis has risen to seven.
Police reinforcements have been deployed to the area after the incident in Kogelberg Street on Thursday night.
Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit detectives are searching for the gunman.
Police said a 26-year-old woman died in hospital on Friday morning, due to head injuries that she sustained in Thursday night's shooting.
Just before 9pm, an armed suspect entered an informal dwelling in Kogelberg Street and fired several shots at the occupants.
Four men and two women died on the scene.
Thursday’s mass shooting is the second incident of its kind in the Western Cape within a matter of hours.
On Wednesday, five people were killed in Atlantis when gunmen opened fire on the three vehicles they were travelling in.
Meanwhile, Western Cape police have confirmed that three suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident.
Western Cape Police Commissioner, Tembisile Patekile visited the crime scene on Friday.
Patekile said the motive for the shooting is still under investigation though gang violence is not being ruled out.
"And I'm happy to say three people have been arrested now. We are confident that they will answer for this case in court. Three man, 17 year-old, 34, and 39. They were arrested...and also a 9mm pistol was confiscated," he said.
The suspects have been charged with seven counts of murder and one count of murder, and possession of an illegal firearm.
Meanwhile, an eighth victim is still in a critical condition in hospital.
