Amantle Samane rape & murder suspect to make first court appearance

JOHANNESBURG - A Mozambican national accused of the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl from Orlando, Soweto will make his first court appearance on Friday morning.
Amantle Samane's body was found in a shack less than a kilometer from her home on Monday, sending shockwaves in the community.
Police arrested the suspect on Wednesday evening with the help of information from community members.

It's alleged she was playing on the street on Monday before the suspect lured her to a shack in Zola, where she was raped and strangled to death.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni: "This person was arrested in Soweto. We were in a position to arrest him late in the evening, I should think between 9 and 10 in the evening."
He said the man was in the country illegally and had traveled in and out of South Africa on a few occasions.
"The communities also know that they were socialising with this particular individual and this particular individual was harboured thereof."
The accused will appear in the Protea Magistrates Court in Soweto on Friday morning.
