EC Transport MEC calls for SANTACO and Co to dissolve executive structure

CAPE TOWN - The Eastern Cape's Transport MEC, Xolile Nqatha, has made a clarion call to the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) and other taxi bodies in the province to dissolve its executive structure within seven days.
Nqatha said this was one of the recommendations made in a meeting to address the ongoing taxi violence convened last month.
According to police, at least seven people have been killed in taxi-related incidents in the Eastern Cape, in the first 9 months of this year.
The call for the dissolution of SANTACO includes Uncedo, Border Alliance, and EC Taxi Association.

Nqatha has advised the taxi bodies in the province to elect an interim executive who will work towards the elective conference and said
This is in the interest of restoring peace within the taxi industry.
He said the current executive has failed to address the ongoing taxi violence in the province.
He added that his Department will take legal action against taxi associations if it doesn't dissolve its executive leadership within the next seven days.
