Disaster management teams activated after flooding in Nelson Mandela Bay metro

CAPE TOWN - Severe weather conditions and subsequent flooding in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro have resulted in significant damage and the displacement of residents.
One person has died. The elderly man allegedly came into contact with live electricity wires during the floods.
Gqeberha and Kariega have been hit hard, and the Eastern Cape provincial government has activated disaster management teams to provide immediate support to the affected communities.

Several areas have been left without power, and Eskom technicians have been deployed to address electricity supply disruptions.
Gift of the Givers has also sent several teams to assist those affected.
The humanitarian aid organisation's Imtiaz Sooliman: "We are moving in teams from Knysna, East London and Adelaide, to support our teams in Nelson Mandela Bay metro. Local people have been contracted to provide hot meals, we will provide mattresses, blankets, new clothing, hygiene packs, sanitary pads and diapers."
