Ramaphosa arrives in Russia for BRICS summit

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in Russia for the BRICS Summit of Emerging Economies.
President Vladimir Putin has gathered more than 20 heads of State at the summit including China’s Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
One of the matters on the agenda is the creation of a BRICS [Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa] currency, an initiative that has stalled several times.
Ramaphosa was set to start his programme for the week on Tuesday afternoon in a meeting with Putin.
This is where he was expected to outline the priorities of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya: “The meeting will present an opportunity for President Ramaphosa to communicate priorities of the seventh administration, highlight the strategic importance of the Russian Federation to South Africa, and to exchange views with the Host President on issues of mutual interest.”
