Gwamanda set to present report to Morero concerning fraud allegations against him
Gwamanda was arrested and charged with fraud after handing himself over to police last week.

JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Community Development MMC Kabelo Gwamanda is expected to present a report to Mayor Dada Morero on Tuesday concerning fraud allegations against him.
Gwamanda was arrested and charged with fraud after handing himself over to police last week.
The former mayor is accused of running a bogus funeral scheme in 2012, which allegedly defrauded some Soweto residents of their money.

Morero said the fraud charges against his predecessor, Gwamanda, would be addressed with the utmost urgency.
While Morero has the authority to fire Gwamanda from his executive, he has expressed a preference for him to resign voluntarily.
He said Gwamanda’s future in the mayoral committee would be determined by the city’s code of conduct for councillors.
In 2023, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority also revealed that Gwamanda’s funeral scheme wasn’t registered to offer funeral insurance.
In a video shared on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Gwamanda responded to his arrest, saying being arrested was a possibility that no Black person could escape.
