D-Day for matrics across SA as final exams kick off

JOHANNESBURG - Matrics are set to start their final exams with English and Afrikaans Paper 3 on Monday in Gauteng.
Over 800,000 full and part-time candidates will sit for the first paper for both the National Senior Certificate and Independent Examination Board.

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube and Gauteng MEC Matome Chiloane are expected to visit the Soshanguve East Secondary School to oversee the first day of exams.
It's D-day as thousands of matrics are set to sit in for their final year exams.

More than 189,000 candidates in Gauteng are registered across several examination centers.
All official languages will begin with paper three, deviating from the past practice of these exams written towards the end of the exam period.
Last year, the province was the third-best performer with an 85.4% pass rate, after Free State and KwaZulu-Natal, respectively.
The exams will wrap up on the 28 November.
