JOHANNESBURG - The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Martin Meyer has said that it's time for him to implement the ideas he used to shout from the opposition benches.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) member is part of the province’s first-ever coalition government, which also includes the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), African National Congress (ANC), and National Freedom Party (NFP).
Meyer recently spoke to Eyewitness News in a wide-ranging interview reflecting on his first 100 days in office.

For much of his political career, Meyer has been in the opposition benches - whether as a DA councillor in eThekwini municipality or as a member of the provincial legislature.
Now that he is in the executive, Meyer said he has a greater appreciation of how government works.
"There are some things I realise now it sounded very easy for me in opposition to say we should do this, and when you start to implement it you start to realise it's not that easy, but there are other things on the other hand that you say why have we not done this before? Like the fact that we record all bid adjudication committee meetings, audio and visually, that’s an easy one, I could never understand why it didn’t happen before,” said Meyer.
He also added that his other colleagues who are also serving in government for the first time, were surprised at how bad the rot is in their respective departments.
