CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police commissioner Thembisile Patekile said the recent arrests of errant police colleagues showed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) was serious about fighting crime.
At least 12 officers and an ex-cop have been arrested in Cape Town in October.
Eight public order policing officers and a former cop colleague are in custody for allegedly extorting a Chinese shop owner in Milnerton.
Four others are accused of stealing R20 million worth of jewellery at a house in Llandudno.
"We feel bad about the arrests of so many police officers in two weeks' time. We are talking to our members that they must not do crime. We are ensuring that they must not exchange this blue uniform for orange uniform."
