The City encourages residents to sign up to receive emailed accounts. This is more convenient for customers in a number of ways. The process is quick, and easy and can be done by simply sending a request via SMS, email or online within minutes.
"By making the change to digital, residents will receive their accounts via email, and not via the post. The South African Post Office is not always reliable, and residents can instead be certain of receiving their accounts directly to their inboxes. Residents can sign up for the service by registering via e-Services on the City's website, or by sending an SMS or email request. This is by far the most convenient and reliable way to receive municipal accounts. Just over 422 000 account holders have already signed up for emailed accounts."
- Councillor Siseko Mbandezi
"By making emailed accounts part of your life, you are not only cutting down on paper waste and helping to protect the environment, but also making your life easier and enjoying greater peace of mind. We thank our residents for stepping into the future of emailed accounts with us,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Finance."
- Councillor Siseko Mbandezi
Emailed accounts have a number of benefits including:
- Improved efficiency – emailed accounts save time and customers can pay their accounts as soon as they are able
- Greater reliability – customers know they will receive their accounts at the same time every month and can better track their payments
- Reduced environmental impact – reducing paper waste benefits our environment and city
- Reduced costs – emailed accounts eliminate the need for paper and other related service and postal delivery costs
