Marais hails efforts of 'dedicated' police to get rid of extortion in WC

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape crime busters said the net was closing in on extortionists and police officers guilty of these tactics.

In recent weeks, provincial police have made numerous arrests linked to the extortion crisis plaguing the region.

Police colleagues and former officers are among the arrests.

Community Safety MEC Anroux Marais has praised police efforts.

"They are really, really dedicated to getting extortion right out of the Western Cape and also out of the bigger South Africa.

"They've really worked hard on the crime intelligence they get. It is also a complex matter, but I am commending what they are doing so far."
