CAPE TOWN - Matric exam venues are putting the final touches on preparations for the finals that start on Monday.

More than 75,600 candidates will write the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams in the Western Cape in 2024. Almost 64,400 are full-time candidates.

On Monday, more than 66,000 candidates will write English Home Language, First Additional Language or Second Additional Language in the morning sitting.

That marks the start of an exam period that comprises a total of 123 papers and concludes on 27 November.

Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier said that their 474 exam centres would be overseen by 1,809 invigilators.

"Our matrics, and their teachers, have put so much work into preparing for these exams, so we appeal to everyone in the Western Cape to make our matrics the VIPs of our province in these coming weeks."

Marking takes place between 2 and 12 December, with 920,000 scripts to be seen by more than 4,200 markers, before being reviewed by over 1,000 mark-checkers.
