NPA says more accused & charges may be added to case against Booi, Stanfield

CAPE TOWN - While former City of Cape Town Human Settlements MMC Malusi Booi and nine of his co-accused will be spending Christmas with their familes, 16 other co-accused, including alleged 28s gang boss, Ralph Stanfield, aren't so lucky.

This after the Cape Town Magistrates Court postponed their case to January next year for further investigations.

Booi and nine others are out on bail, while Stanfield, his wife, Nicole Johnson, and 14 others are in custody.

Booi's tender fraud has been joined to the growing list of charges against Stanfield and others.

They're facing 54 serious charges, including murder and fraud, among others.

The murder case relates to the murder of city official, Wendy Kloppers, in February last year, as well as the murder of former Hard Livings gang boss, Rashied Staggie, in 2019.

The fraud case is linked to the billion rand housing tender fraud within the city's human settlements directorate during Booi's tenure as MMC.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said they may add more accused and charges going forward.

"There are charges of even being members of a gang and being members of the enterprise. It's a 35-page charge sheet that we have."

The NPA said that new evidence, which would need more time to investigate, had also come to light.
