McKenzie says he won't apologise for his dept spending almost R1m on his Paris Olympics trip

JOHANNESBURG - Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie said he would not apologise for his department spending almost a million rand for his trip to France.
It's emerged that the department spent more than R800,000 for his trip to the Paris Olympic Games two months ago with more than half of this amount spent on transport.

The minister spoke at a media briefing where gave an update on his first 100 days in the ministerial position.
McKenzie said that he could not apologise for doing his job.
"It's my job to go to sporting events, especially the biggest showcasing of talent in the sporting world, which is the Olympics. I didn't go to the Paralympics and that's not an achievement. I am still going to go to all the sporting events because that's government. Now they want to portray me as taking a joyride. That thing, you can do with other ministers. You have chosen the wrong one."
