JOHANNESBURG - The Mogale City council will on Wednesday vote on motions of no confidence against the mayor, speaker, and the chief whip.
The motion against the mayor was brought by the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC), while the other two were brought by the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Since April 2023, the West Rand municipality has been governed through a multiparty coalition led by the African National Congress (ANC), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and other small parties.
DA caucus leader, Tyrone Gray, said that since this coalition came into power, the municipality’s oversight structures and other administrative institutions had collapsed.
"The EFF chief whip of Mogale City, councillor Tsholofelo Ramaisa, has failed to perform any of her legislative duties and, put more basically, is useless and needs to be removed. Secondly, the ANC Speaker of council, Lucky Sele, has been using his position to protect the executive and failed to execute his duties in an impartial and unbiased manner."
