DURBAN - The prosecution in the matter of the Lusikisiki massacre said that it needed more time to probe the matter.
This as it intends to run ballistic tests on the firearm found in the possession of the man accused of killing the 18 victims.
The accused murderer, Siphosoxolo Myayekethe, returned to the Lusikisiki Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
During court proceedings, he ditched his application for bail, something the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed.
Eastern Cape NPA spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali: "The man accused of the murder of 18 people in Lusikisiki has abandoned his bail. The matter has now been postponed to the 18th of November 2024 for further investigations."
Tyali said that a bail application for the accused, who is also a parolee, would have been a waste of time.
"As the State, we are happy that he made the sensible decision because applying for bail when his parole has been revoked would have been a waste of the court’s time."
Mayekethe faces 18 counts of murder and one for possession of an unlawful firearm.
The matter will return to court in November.
