JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee (NEC) member Pule Mabe is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning on charges of corruption.
The case is in connection with a R27 million tender that was allegedly awarded to one of his companies in 2017.
It is understood the company failed to declare being linked to Mabe, who was a member of Parliament (MP) at the time.
Mabe's company, Enviro Mobi, was awarded a tender to supply the City of Ekurhuleni with 200 three-wheeler tuk-tuks for waste collection.
However, the company did not disclose its connection to the ANC NEC member when the Gauteng government awarded the contract.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), which investigated the matter, found that Enviro Mobi misrepresented itself during the bidding process for the R27 million tender.
The SIU subsequently recommended that the company repay the money, as it was determined to have unduly benefited from a contract obtained irregularly.
Mabe is the latest ANC leader to face charges, following former MPs Zizi Kodwa and Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
