CAPE TOWN - Two suspected extortionists have been killed and another seriously wounded in a shoot-out with police in Cape Town.
Police said they were acting on intelligence that the trio were in fact extorting businesses.
They followed the car the suspects were travelling in on Tuesday.
When the suspects realised they were being followed, they started firing shots at the police.
A shoot-out ensued along the N1 incoming opposite Century City.
The police's Malcolm Pojie: "Three firearms were seized from the vehicle after the shootout. Preliminary investigations indicate the vehicle the suspects were travelling in was hijacked in Thornton a few days ago. Investigations are underway to determine the identities of the deceased individuals and the one that was wounded."
