The victims were shot during a family gathering in September.

The State said it would be opposing bail.

Over the weekend, the families of the tragic Lusikisiki massacre laid their slain relatives to rest.

They now have to face the man accused of shooting and killing them as he makes his second appearance in the Lusikisiki magistrates' court.

The accused is also a parolee on a separate murder case, something the families have described as worrying.

David King spoke to Eyewitness News on behalf of the families.

"It is concerning as to when the people sit down to decide on a parole for a prisoner, what is it that they really look at? And what informs them that this prisoner does qualify for a parole because now we’ve lost 18 lives due to someone who should have still been in prison."

The families lamented that while they may close the chapter of their loved ones, they still want closure on the motive behind the brutal murder.
