JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said Eskom was on track to achieve an energy availability factor of 70% in 2025.

The current energy availability factor is nearly 64%.
In March 2023, Eskom’s energy availability factor was just above 55%.
The frequent breakdowns of units at power stations and their overall poor electricity generation were major factors contributing to the alarming levels of the energy availability factor.
However, Ramokgopa has expressed optimism, stating that now that power plants were starting to operate as needed, conditions were likely to improve.
"We are on the right path. All matrices are pointing to a positive performance, and we are far exceeding where we expected to be."
While it’s been more than 200 days without load shedding, Ramokgopa said Eskom must now focus on maintaining and improving electricity generation.
