Ekurhuleni ANC wants to restructure mayor's executive
The ANC in the metro wants to restructure Mayor Doctor Xhakaza’s executive more than six months after his election to the city's top office.

JOHANNESBURG - With the African National Congress (ANC) back in power in Tshwane, all attention is now on Ekurhuleni where the party wants to reconfigure government.
The ANC in the metro wants to restructure Mayor Doctor Xhakaza’s executive more than six months after his election to the city's top office.
Ekurhuleni's government comprises both the ANC and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), with representatives from each party serving on the mayoral committee and in the Speaker of council role.

ANC regional coordinator Jongizizwe Dlabathi said they would be guided by the provincial leadership.
"From time to time, we give an update on the state of the coalition in our own space so that we update the leadership accordingly and probably point to areas that may require them to give us certain decisions. It is out of that meeting that we will be able to communicate properly what we would have proposed and what the leadership would have acceded to," said Dlabathi.
Meanwhile, ANC Ekurhuleni is set to make a proposal to its provincial and national leadership on its bid to restructure government in the municipality.
Dlabathi confirmed a meeting will be held to discuss Ekurhuleni’s future.
The party has expressed dissatisfaction with the city's governance, citing the unequal distribution of power within the executive as a contributing factor.

The party seeks a proportional allocation of positions in Xhakaza's cabinet among organisations in its multi-party coalition.
But it is understood some in the ANC are open to including the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Xhakaza’s cabinet.
Dlabathi, however, says the decision will lie with the party’s national leadership.
"There is a coalition task team at a national level that then takes the responsibility of listening to all the submissions and making its own determinations and recommendations to the national executive committee of the ANC," said Dlabathi.
