LUSIKISIKI - The families of the Lusikisiki massacre victims said that it was concerning that the suspect linked to the mass shooting was a parolee.
The 45-year-old, who was arrested last week for the murders of 18 people two weeks ago, was previously convicted for murder.
David King, who is speaking on behalf of the victims' families, said that this was worrying.
"We've lost 18 lives due to somebody who should have been still in prison. Our take on this is that if this guy had served his sentence, the members of families would still be alive."
King has blamed the state for failing to keep its citizens safe.
"Our government does not really care about the security of the citizens of South Africa because if they really cared, they would protect them the way they protect political leaders of this country."
