JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has ordered a thorough investigation into the tragic deaths of six Soweto children, who died after consuming suspected contaminated snacks from a local spaza shop.
Five of the children, aged between six and nine, passed away last Sunday, leaving the Naledi community devastated.
A joint funeral was held on Sunday for five of the victims, while the sixth child tragically died in hospital during the service.
During his keynote address at the funeral, Premier Lesufi emphasised the seriousness of the investigation.
"Those tasked with uncovering the cause will act swiftly. We’ve instructed law enforcement not to limit their probe to Naledi but to explore all possible angles."
