The department's Siboniso Duma said: "There is a cohort coming from the training that is on the ground and will join the RTI [Road Traffic Inspectorate] service, and already we are revising a 24-hour service because when you’ve seen RTI on the road, they will be visible and cautious, as well as the motorists."
Duma said various law enforcement agencies will be deployed to maintain law and order on the roads.
“We've got a joint operation by December. We have SAPS [South African Police Service], Home Affairs, and SANDF [South African National Defence Force], and we will all be working together with traffic officers from municipalities."
