CAPE TOWN - Three suspects linked to the extortion case involving police officers in Cape Town are expected to appear at the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Friday.

Eight officers and a former policeman were in the dock on Wednesday for the same matter. Their case was postponed to 22 October for a bail application.

They are accused of extorting R28,000 from a Chinese shop owner after threatening him with arrest on immigration charges.

Police report that a 51-year-old pastor was arrested on Wednesday evening while on a bus to Laingsburg.

A security officer at the mall where the alleged extortion took place was also apprehended at work.

Another suspect, who works at the mall, was taken into custody at his home in Khayelitsha on Thursday.

This brings the total number of accused in the case to 12.
