CAPE TOWN - Legal teams are due to make final heads of argument in an attempted rape case against convicted murderer and rapist, Luyanda Botha, at the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Friday.
Botha, who is serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of 19-year-old Uyinene Mrwetyana in 2019, is currently on trial for the attempted rape of a nursing student ten years ago.
Botha previously told the court he did not attempt to rape a woman in the shower room at Athlone Nursing College in June 2014.
He told the court that he visited the college to confront his girlfriend about having an affair with another female student.
The State alleges that Botha punched, choked and kicked the complainant before loosening his pants in an attempt to rape her.
However, Botha denied assaulting or attempting to rape her, saying he tried to calm her down after she fell onto her back but ran away after she began screaming.
