Modack co-accused claims police deleted evidence from her cellphone

CAPE TOWN - A co-accused in the high-profile trial of alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack, has accused police of deleting evidence from her cellphone.

The accused faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder for allegedly plotting three attacks on slain top cop Kinnear, a year before his eventual murder.

Modack and his 14 co-accused faces 122 charges centered around Kinnear's murder outside his Bishop Lavis home in September 2020.

Co-accused Amaal Jantjies faces several charges of conspiracy to commit murder for allegedly plotting three botched attacks on Kinnear in 2019.

Defence attorney Pauline Andrews on Thursday cross-examined Hawks officer Captain Trevor Shaw about evidence extracted from Jantjies' cellphones.

Andrews told the court that Jantjies believes crucial evidence related to the charges she faces was deleted from her cellphones.

Former anti-gang unit general Andre Lincoln has previously denied tampering with two cellphones confiscated from Jantjies during her arrest in November 2019.

Andrews told the court that 21 audio recordings were deleted from one of Jantjies' phones.

According to Jantjies, the deleted recordings contain information that implicates Lincoln as the mastermind behind the attacks on Kinnear.
