JOHANNESBURG - Newly elected Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya has promised to be a mayor for all residents in the capital city.

The 36-year-old ActionSA councillor became the fourth mayor in the metro in the past three years.

Moya will be leading a multiparty coalition government that will include the African National Congress, Economic Freedom Fighters and other smaller parties.

Nasiphi Moya was born and raised in Mpikwana, in the Eastern Cape.

When she was 15, she moved to Cape Town.

It is in the Mother City where Moya went to high school then attended the University of Cape Town and later the University of the Western Cape - where she graduated with a PHD in Political Science.

Moya’s PHD thesis is titled: The negotiated nation, evaluating nation building in post-Apartheid South Africa.

Like most ActionSA leaders, Moya has past links to the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Between 2014 and 2019 Moya worked for the DA’s head office, its Gauteng branch and as chief of staff to several DA mayors in Tshwane.

As she takes up the hot seat, Moya has vowed to leave the City of Tshwane better than she found it.
