When she was 15, she moved to Cape Town.
It is in the Mother City where Moya went to high school then attended the University of Cape Town and later the University of the Western Cape - where she graduated with a PHD in Political Science.
Moya’s PHD thesis is titled: The negotiated nation, evaluating nation building in post-Apartheid South Africa.
Like most ActionSA leaders, Moya has past links to the Democratic Alliance (DA).
