Old Mutual launches mobile data plan targeting lower-income earners
Old Mutual is taking on Capitec Connect by branching out into cellular services.

On Monday, Old Mutual announced the launch of a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) service.
They are aiming to provide competitive packages to the lower-income market.

Their MVNO will be on the same network as Cell C, the main provider of these services in South Africa.
Vermeulen says their packages look almost identical to the offerings from Capitec Connect, as they use the same network.
He argues that marketing will be important for Old Mutual.
“The only reason you would choose Old Mutual over Capitec Connect, or someone else, is because of how they market to their customer base.”
