CAPE TOWN - Parliament returns from its recess this week and one of its first moves is an oversight inspection of key SOEs.
Eskom and rail agency, PRASA, will be the focus when MPs pay the first oversight visit to the SOEs in the seventh term.
Finance watchdog, SCOPA, will spend the next few days at the entities, from checking on PRASA rolling stock in Johannesburg to the Medupi power station in Limpopo.
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) will conduct oversight visits to Eskom and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) from Tuesday until Thursday.
The oversight visit to Eskom by the committee follows similar visits during the sixth Parliament, where MPs had some tense interactions with the Eskom board.
Medupi will be the committee’s first stop when MPs head to the Limpopo power station.
The committee is also scheduled to meet with Eskom’s top management and board for an update on performance as the utility approaches 200 days of no load shedding.
Rail agency PRASA will also form part of the oversight, with most of the focus on the outcomes of the Auditor-General's audit reports, where procurement and contract management were identified as areas of material non-compliance by the agency.
