JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed confidence in the ability of Eastern Cape police to crack the latest mass shooting incident.

This followed the shooting of six community patrollers by unknown gunmen near Qumbu on Sunday evening.

It is understood that the members of the community policing forum (CPF) were targeted while on patrol duty.

Ramaphosa said he was both saddened and outraged by the incident.

He said that the suspects would be apprehended, along with anyone who harboured such criminals.

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said: "Government will continue to work with communities to ensure our homes, neighbourhoods, and public spaces are safe and that criminals know they will pay for their deeds."
