JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress (ANC)’s Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, is set to meet with the party’s leadership in the City of Tshwane on Tuesday might, to discuss the make-up of the capital city’s incoming government.
A new mayor will finally be elected on Wednesday - following Cillers Brink’s ousting through an ANC-sponsored no-confidence vote last week.
On Tuesday afternoon, Mbalula confirmed during a media briefing that no deal was struck with the DA regarding a mayoral candidate.
ActionSA’s national leadership wants Nasiphi Moya, who currently serves as the deputy mayor, to ascend to the metro’s top office.

But Mbaula says the party wants to return to the helm of the capital city, even though it is yet to announce its mayoral candidate.
According to Mbalula, the ANC is engaging all political organisations that have shown interest in forming an ANC-led coalition government in Tshwane.
“The ANC continuing engagements with various parties to finalize the matter of the mayor and executive team. We are confident that working with other parties, we will elect a new mayor of Tshwane tomorrow [Wednesday].”
Meanwhile the DA also wants the former Tshwane, Brink, to be re-elected to the city’s highest office.
