JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng says it will be guided by its national leadership on whom to form a coalition government with in the City of Tshwane.

The capital city has been without an executive government for over a week after Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Cilliers Brink was removed as mayor, through an ANC-sponsored motion of no confidence.

The election of a new mayor is due to take place with parties currently engaged in last-minute horse-trading.

The DA's federal council chairperson - Helen Zille - has accused the ANC in Gauteng of acting in silos and without approval from its national leadership.

Zille says this is why the DA and ANC have not been able to replicate the Government of National Unity in the Gauteng Legislature and local governments in the province.

However, the ANC's Gauteng chairperson, Panyaza, Lesufi has denied this.

Lesufi says he’s meeting with the ANC’s National Working Committee on Tuesday afternoon regarding Tshwane.

"We will be guided by them, who they feel we should work with, whoever they want us to work with, we will accept that."

The election of a new Tshwane Mayor will take place on Wednesday morning.
