JOHANNESBURG - Some Israeli exchange students living in South Africa said a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was not the ideal solution to the ongoing conflict.

Monday marked the one-year anniversary of the deadly surprise attack by Hamas on Israeli territory, which was followed by Israel's continued offensive in Gaza.

In Johannesburg, a memorial was held in Houghton, where two Israeli students attended and shared their thoughts.

Maayan Hollander, an exchange student currently stranded in South Africa due to the suspension of flights into Israel, shared her thoughts on a ceasefire deal.

"In my opinion, stopping everything now would just mean we’ll face the same situation again in the future."

Her stance against a ceasefire resonated with many in attendance at the memorial.

Another Israeli student, Moriya Witt, echoed the sentiment, adding that the people of Israel continued to face relentless prejudice.

"It feels like everyone is against Israel, and we experience anti-Semitism all the time."
