JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) is sounding the alarm over a fake job advertisement circulating on social media.
The JMPD distanced itself from an advertisement promoting a Metro Police learnership, which features images of officers and JMPD vehicles.
The department said the ad was false and did not reflect its current operations.
Spokesperson Xolani Fihla clarified that the department was focused on an internal training program aimed at transitioning Traffic Wardens into Metro Police Officers to improve its service to Johannesburg residents.
“The JMPD encourages the public to be vigilant and to verify the authenticity of any job advertisements claiming to be from the department. Official announcements regarding vacancies will always be made through the City of Johannesburg's official channels, including its website and media platforms.”
