CAPE TOWN - Evidence taken from the cellphone of a co-accused in trial against alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack, shows how he allegedly plotted against top cop Charl Kinnear.

Modack and 14 co-accused face 122 charges for various crimes centered around the murder of Kinnear in September 2020.

The State alleges Modack sought the services of co-accused Amaal Jantjies and Jannick Adonis to murder Kinnear.

State witness, Hawks officer Captain Trevor Shaw on Monday presented messages and voice notes from Jantjies' cellphone showing she was in contact with various hitmen in 2019 to plot against Kinnear.

The evidence shown in court relates to an incident in November 2019 when Jantjies hired two gunmen to fire "warning shots" at Kinnear's home.

However, the gunmen decided not to go through with the attack after they found Kinnear's home was under police protection.

The trial continues on Tuesday.
