LUSIKISIKI - Top police officials said that the three suspects arrested in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape were not specifically linked to the mass killing but may be persons of interest.

They said that they were, however, linked to a number of cases, including murders in the area.

The officials briefed the media shortly after Sunday's memorial service held for the 18 victims of the massacre.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu: "You arrest somebody for a specific case in which he or she is a suspect and while doing work, there's always the possibility that he or she may be a person of interest in another case, inclusing the one that has recently happened."

Mchunu said that more clarity would prevail when they make their first court appearance on Wednesday morning.

"So those three are in that particular context but when they get charged tomorrow, it doesn't mean that it will be the end, it may not mean that there are other charges may follow as police do their work."
