JOHANNESBURG - Deputy Minister of Defence Bantu Holomisa has urged African states to improve governance as a key measure to prevent conflicts on the continent.
On Saturday, while addressing attendees at the African Peace Security Dialogue, Holomisa emphasised that poor governance, inadequate service delivery, and the scramble for resources were driving factors behind many conflicts in Africa.
Holomisa’s remarks echoed his broader stance on the need for accountability and better management of resources within government to avoid crises such as war and instability, themes he has consistently addressed during his political career.
"Economic underdevelopment is another major factor. When people are denied access to basic needs like food, water, education, and unemployment the ground becomes fertile for unrest."
