JOHANNESBURG - Advocacy group, Teachers Can, is calling for teachers to be appreciated in their communities.
The organisation says the majority of teachers feel lonely and underappreciated as professionals.
The comment comes as the country celebrated World Teachers' Day on Saturday.
Spokesperson, Andisiwe Hlongwane, said that while celebrating educators, we must also reflect on how to better support them in fulfilling their roles.
"So what we do, we try to connect these young teachers to each other. We try and amplify their voices through writing up experiences that they have, because oftentimes, they feel like they can't voice those experiences themselves, creating platforms so we have something called the Teachers Can Exchange. So we bring the ecosystem, the decision makers into the space and engage with these young teachers."
