CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town is reminding residents of the ongoing installation of new electricity meters.
The city said the new prepaid meters would improve the management of power usage for customers, as well as accurate readings.
Installation of the new meters is compulsory and free.
The Metro said customers would receive letters notifying them of when their area was due for replacement.
The City's MMC for Energy Xanthea Limberg assured residents would benefit.
"The meter replacement programme is beneficial to residents. The cost of electricity is the same for the old credit meter and the new prepaid meters. These meters merely measure electricity usage and do not consume any of the customer's electricity."
