CAPE TOWN - The Freedom Front Plus wants National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza to take steps against Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament (MP) Busisiwe Mkhwebane for making racial remarks against members of the judiciary and two parliamentary legal advisors.
Earlier this week, the former Public Protector posted on X that she’s largely being persecuted by lawyers and judges who are of Indian descent.

The Democratic Alliance (DA), meanwhile, said Mkhwebane’s race-baiting is an attempt to deflect from her failures which led to her impeachment from the Chapter 9 institution.
On Tuesday, Mkhwebane responded to the dismissal of her case in the Supreme Court of Appeal by lashing out at Judge Visvanathan Ponnan.
She said he was arrogant and dismissive of her case during the August hearing when she was appealing a high court ruling which rejected her application for the chairperson of her parliamentary impeachment inquiry to recuse himself.
Mkhwebane went on to slam two parliamentary lawyers and a Cape Bar advocate who were involved in those proceedings, alleging it was largely jurists of Indian heritage who have denied her justice.
The Freedom Front Plus has written to Didiza to refer Mkhwebane’s comments to Parliament’s powers and privileges committee which considers the conduct of MPs.
The party’s Heloise Denner said Mkhwebane’s utterances not only discredit the integrity of the people in question but also Parliament’s processes.
The DA’s Glynnis Breytenbach, meanwhile, said Mkhwebane’s comments are both inflammatory and undermine the principles of justice and accountability.
The SCA found Mkhwebane’s application to have been frivolous and lacking in merit.
She was removed as Public Protector a year ago before she became an EFF MP.
