CAPE TOWN - Minister Solly Malatsi’s efforts to save the South African Post Office (SAPO) have been welcomed by the communications committee chairperson - Khusela Sangoni Diko.
Sangoni Diko notes and supports Malatsi’s statement on approaching National Treasury to establish a task team that will assist the entity with finding private partners for repositioning purposes.
But any move towards privatising the SAPO has been opposed by unions.

Sangoni Diko said Malatsi’s efforts to save the post office are in line with the committee’s recommendation made on two separate occasions.
She said the committee called for urgent and decisive action from the department to resolve the challenges at the SAPO following what she calls "disappointing interactions" with the entity and the business rescue practitioners.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU)'s spokesperson, Matthew Parks, also called out the business rescue practitioners - saying the process yielded no results.
"We’ve seen many workers being retrenched. Basically, the post office has gone under business rescue with nothing to show for it."
The committee will now invite Minister Malatsi to explain his vision for the organisation and present the different scenarios “with evidence and financial implications for each option”.
