JOHANNESBURG - The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) said that Eskom did not take the well-being of Emfuleni employees into account when it attached its bank accounts.
As a result, the municipality has been unable to pay all its employees their salaries for September, leaving thousands of workers stranded.

SAMWU's secretary in Gauteng, Mpho Tladinyane, said that municipal workers in Emfuleni had been significantly impacted by the delayed salary payments.
"If salaries are not paid, that creates serious challenges for employees. Remember, that a number of debit orders would have been paid on the 25th. Workers have to pay their service providers, their Old Mutuals and so forth. Workers have to pay for houses and cars."
