JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says officers know who they are looking for, following the Lusikisiki mass murder.
Addressing community members in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday afternoon, Mchunu said police have possible suspects on their radar.
Mchunu and other top police officials have been meeting local authorities following the killing of 18 people at the weekend.
Police have still not been able to determine the motive for the deadly attack.
Mchunu has described the perpetrators of the massacre as animals.
“Those who caused this firstly they are not human beings, they are not human, your relatives were not killed by human beings.”
Mchunu has vowed to bring the perpetrators in the tragic case to book.
Last year a high-level police contingent visited Lusikisiki to engage over mounting complaints of violent crime.
And while a local police station was later mandated to urgently address the community’s issues, some residents said some of their cries appear to have fallen on deaf ears.
Some have also alleged that dockets are sitting and gathering dust, but Mchunu said this would come to an end.
“It is now time to dust off those dockets, it’s now time to get to another gear of policing in South Africa as whole, it is a different era, and it has come, and we are on to it.”
