JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Labour will provide an update on its nationwide blitz inspections targeting eateries, following joint compliance raids.

The inspections, which began earlier in September, aim to enforce labour laws ensuring that businesses operate within legal frameworks.

The raids are part of a broader crackdown on businesses that fail to comply with employment standards and regulations.

In recent weeks, many small businesses, particularly in the hospitality industry, have been found to exploit workers through underpayment, inadequate safety measures, and long hours without proper compensation.

The focus points of the blitz include ensuring that foreign workers have the necessary documentation and that businesses are adhering to minimum wage laws, occupational safety standards, and working condition requirements.

Minister of Labour Nomakhosazana Meth will spearhead the upcoming briefing, where she is expected to provide a detailed update on the findings from these inspections and outline intervention strategies for businesses found in violation.
