Labour Department uncovers widespread non-compliance at SA's restaurants
The department is conducting raids, which have now extended to the logistics industry, focused on enforcing labour and immigration laws across multiple sectors.

JOHANNESBURG - Following a month of nationwide inspections, the Department of Employment and Labour has uncovered widespread non-compliance and flouting of labour laws at some of the country’s restaurants.
Speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria on Tuesday, Minister Nomakhosazana Meth revealed that to date, the ministry has conducted over 2,500 inspections to enforce regulations in the hospitality sector.

The raids, which have now extended to the logistics industry, are focused on enforcing labour and immigration laws across multiple sectors.
Meth said the bulk of inspections were done in provinces with the highest concentration of restaurants.
“The Western Cape led with 809 inspections, followed by Gauteng with 764, and KwaZulu-Natal with 535. In the North West, there were 217 inspections, Eastern Cape 82, Free State 69, and Mpumalanga 59.”
