JOHANNESBURG - Tuesday, 1 October, marks International Coffee Day.
Whether you enjoy a straight espresso, americano, latte or cappuccino or even decaf - this day is observed annually to promote and celebrate coffee as a beverage.
Although International Coffee Day's history can be traced to the early 2000s, it was officially established in 2015 during a meeting of the International Coffee Organisation in Italy.
Since then, the day has been celebrated in over 77 countries.
International Coffee Day aims to unite all coffee lovers by celebrating the cultural and economic significance of the beverage.
It also raises awareness over the environmental challenges facing global coffee production, including climate change and deforestation.
Barista Phuti Moremi says this day is exciting.
"Today, is one of the best days because we get to experience the most beautiful thing in the world that has been given to us, that is coffee beans. Coffee has so many health benefits."
For anyone experiencing health problems, he said coffee had a lot of benefits.
"For people who love coffee but have heart palpitations advice would be to drink it, take it slow, take single shots and over time your body will get used to the coffee. It has so many health benefits."
The International Coffee Organisation is calling for fair trade practices and ethical sourcing of coffee.
According to the organisation, this will ensure producers get fair compensation for their labour.
