JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has committed to strengthening its economic, social and political ties with the Communist Party of Vietnam.
This followed a high-level meeting in Johannesburg on Monday, led by ANC Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane.
The deliberations focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries in trade, development, and governance.
South Africa and Vietnam enjoy a healthy bilateral relationship, with trade volumes exceeding R23 billion in 2023, a 14% increase from the previous year.
Vietnam is South Africa’s fourth-largest trading partner in Southeast Asia.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Mokonyane said strengthening this relationship was crucial for both countries.
"They've supported us militarily, they've supported us politically, but also they've helped us on how to organise ourselves and organise for people's power."
The ANC sees the partnership as essential for job creation and long-term stability.
