DURBAN - The AmaMpondo Royal Family has called on the national government to prioritise the rampant crime rate in Lusikisiki, in the Eastern Cape.
The Royal Family is concerned about the safety of members of the community after 18 people were shot and killed in the area on Saturday.
It said while the massacre was the first they had experienced, deadly attacks on people in their homes at night happen regularly.

The AmaMpondo Royal Family's spokesperson, Prince Chulumanco Sigcau, said the government must act with speed.
“We need an intense reaction from government, we need government to instil confidence once again in the people of this region. And that would prevent for government a situation where members of the society would want to take matters into their own hands.”
