JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in Tshwane has described former mayor Cilliers Brink's 18-month tenure in the city’s top office as chaotic and appalling.
On Thursday, the Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor was removed from power through an ANC-sponsored motion of no confidence against Brink.
The ANC is now engaged in talks with various political parties to establish a coalition government to lead the metro.

ANC spokesperson in Tshwane Bafuze Yabo said the DA was solely responsible for the financial crisis the metro is currently facing.
“The past few years under DA leadership have exposed Tshwane to numerous challenges, including adverse audit findings for the 2021/22 financial year. This raises serious concerns about potential concealment of financial mismanagement and wasteful expenditure.”

Yabo said it was time for the ANC to rebuild the municipality following the DA’s removal from power.
“This decisive action marks a pivotal moment for our city, allowing us to redirect our focus to serving all residents of Tshwane, rather than catering to the elite few in the eastern parts of the municipality.”
However, shortly after the DA was ousted from Tshwane’s government, the party’s leadership said it would continue to fight to protect its achievements in office.
